I'm not very good at small talk. I'm actually terrible at small talk. I came to terms with my dread of this meaningless form of conversation many years ago. There are probably many reasons why, but I'll not go into a personal psychoanalysis here...
So there I am, at the haridresser again. Cutting, adding some color, or maybe both (which by the way is unbelievable expencie in Norway). This will take at least 1 hr. So the hairdresser goes at it again. "Where you from?" "Lived here long?" "What you do?" "So you're a pilot?" "Oh, no. What you do then?" "Have boyfriend?" Bla bla bla.
I just hate it! It must be extremely boring to have to chat like that to every customer.
And the weird thing is that people feel like they have to chat. Why can't it just be quiet? Do we have to chat. I don't care about most of the stuff you talk about, and you won't even remember any of the odd questions you asked me the last time.
But it's not just the hairdresser. It's the same with physical therapists, chiropractors, and old aunts you haven't met for years.
Anyway, I hate small talk.
